For Bhavana Cheta Keluskar, the dream began with fairy tales—stories of strong, graceful women who dared to follow their hearts. Somewhere within those stories, she imagined herself standing beneath the lights of a stage, confident and radiant.

But dreams often have to wait when life demands practicality.

Coming from a middle-class family, Bhavana understood early that financial independence was essential. Instead of pursuing the stage she had imagined as a child, she chose education and built a professional identity for herself. After graduation, she entered the field of Human Resources, discovering a career that allowed her to work closely with people, conduct training and employee engagement programmes, contribute to CSR initiatives, and grow within the hospitality industry.

For years, her professional responsibilities became her priority. Yet the dream of the stage never truly disappeared.

The Moment a Forgotten Dream Returned

During the lockdown, something changed.

A few people around Bhavana began telling her that she possessed the personality, confidence, and communication skills needed to participate in beauty pageants. Their words became more than compliments. They became a reminder of the woman she had once imagined becoming.

The dream was still there.

After becoming a mother, Bhavana made a decision that would redefine her journey. She chose to pursue pageantry—not simply for a crown, but to prove something deeply personal: dreams do not have an expiry date.

Her journey became a message to women who had placed their aspirations on hold because of family responsibilities, motherhood, age, or circumstances.

For Bhavana, courage is not about waiting for the perfect moment. It is about deciding that the moment has finally arrived.

The Reality Behind the Professional Smile

Her journey, however, has never been effortless.

Human Resources demanded far more than hiring and interviews. Bhavana found herself managing employee concerns, workplace conflicts, payroll deadlines, recruitment, compliance, engagement initiatives, and critical business decisions—often simultaneously.

Every decision involved people and their livelihoods.

At the same time, she was building her family and navigating the responsibilities that came with motherhood. The challenge became even greater after the birth of her second child.

Two young children needed her attention while her professional life continued to demand her presence. Boardroom meetings, deadlines, employee concerns, and business priorities existed alongside school, health, emotional needs, and family responsibilities.

Eventually, the pressure began affecting her own well-being.

Bhavana experienced a difficult phase marked by stress, anxiety, and depression. It became a moment of deep reflection—a realization that while she had been taking care of everyone around her, she had forgotten to take care of herself.

That realization became the beginning of change.

Choosing Balance Instead of Sacrifice

Rather than abandoning either her career or her family, Bhavana chose to redesign her life.

She changed industries and moved to a workplace closer to home, reducing travel time and creating more space for her children while continuing her professional journey.

It was not a choice between being a mother and being a professional.

It was a choice to give both identities room to grow.

From this experience came a personal philosophy she continues to follow—the 3 Ps: Prioritize, Plan, and Purpose.

For Bhavana, her career and her children are both her babies. She never wanted one to grow at the cost of the other.

Crowns That Became Milestones

Bhavana's pageant journey has already given her several proud moments.

She secured the 2nd Runner-Up position at Mrs. Navi Mumbai 2020, followed by 1st Runner-Up at Mrs. Maharashtra 2021. Today, her participation in Mrs. India – The International Glamour Project represents another important chapter in a dream that once seemed financially out of reach.

But for Bhavana, the crowns represent more than beauty or competition.

Each stage has strengthened her confidence and given her a larger platform to communicate a message she deeply believes in.

Her greatest achievement, however, may not be a title at all.

It is becoming a working mother who continues to build her career while raising two children. It is creating financial independence from a middle-class background. It is continuing to learn and grow within Human Resources. And it is having the courage to pursue a childhood dream after motherhood.

Turning a Platform into a Purpose

Bhavana's aspirations extend beyond her own achievements.

Around eight months ago, she began a social initiative focused on supporting underprivileged students. She recognized that many talented children struggle to continue their education simply because their families cannot afford essential study materials.

Her vision is to expand this initiative through fundraising and partnerships, helping ensure that financial hardship does not determine how far a child's education can go.

For Bhavana, education is more than a qualification. It is a pathway to possibility.

And as her public platform grows, she hopes to use her voice to encourage more women to believe in themselves.

She wants women to understand that motherhood, age, responsibilities, or physical appearance should never determine the limits of their potential.

Looking back, Bhavana identifies five milestones that hold particular meaning for her.
