Divya Ramaswamy: Where Data Meets the Power of Storytelling

Divya Ramaswamy has always lived between two worlds—one shaped by data, strategy, and leadership, and another driven by imagination, words, and stories. With two decades of experience as a marketing and analytics subject matter expert and leader, she has built an accomplished corporate career while nurturing a lifelong dream of becoming a full-time writer.

For Divya, these two identities are not contradictions. They are complementary chapters of the same story.

A Love Affair with Words

Divya's relationship with writing began remarkably early. At just six years old, she started out as a freelance journalist, discovering the magic of words and the power of storytelling. Poetry came first, followed by journalism and eventually fiction.

Her love for stories grew from an equally deep love for reading. She understood early that a beautifully told story can make people introspect, laugh, cry, imagine another reality, or see their own lives differently.

The encouragement she received from her parents, editors, and readers gave her the confidence to continue writing. What began as childhood curiosity gradually became a lifelong passion.

Today, she is a published author whose fiction works include Hearts And Hiccups, Love At First Byte, and The Monsoon Touch. For Divya, seeing her stories become books is more than an achievement—it is a deeply personal joy.

From Google to Growth Leadership

While writing remained close to her heart, another unexpected passion was taking shape.

Her professional journey began at Google, where a chance opportunity introduced her to the fascinating world of digital marketing and analytics. She quickly discovered that the field offered the perfect combination of creativity and logic.

Marketing, in her world, is both art and science. Strategies are informed by data, but decisions are equally shaped by human behaviour. Every challenge presents a new question, every problem creates an opportunity to learn, and every campaign becomes a chance to understand people better.

Over two decades, Divya has worked across large corporations, startups, and startups operating within larger organisations. Her experience has taken her across multiple geographies and given her the opportunity to lead teams spanning different continents.

From global brands such as Expedia to ambitious startups such as Super.com, each chapter has brought a different kind of learning.

Today, as VP of Growth at Super.com, she continues to work with talented and compassionate people, creating opportunities for underserved communities. It is this combination of meaningful work, challenging problems, and talented teams that continues to keep her professionally inspired.

Learning Through Every Chapter

Divya looks at challenges differently. Rather than defining difficult experiences as struggles, she sees them as moments that reveal what truly matters.

One particular phase of her career became especially difficult. The workplace environment was unhealthy, with a lack of basic courtesy and respect. Competition and the pressure to remain visible gradually blurred the boundaries of acceptable behaviour, including rude and sexist language.

For a long time, the belief that difficult experiences were simply part of professional growth kept her from prioritising her own well-being.

Then came the decision to leave.

The change was immediate and deeply personal. The Sunday evening headaches that had become a weekly ritual disappeared. The weight she had been carrying seemed to lift, and the cheerful, optimistic version of herself returned.

That experience taught Divya an important lesson: ambition should never come at the cost of one's well-being or self-respect.

Leading with Purpose and Empathy

Working in fast-paced technology environments comes with its own set of challenges. Change is constant, expectations evolve rapidly, and there is always something new to learn.

For Divya, professional success is not simply about getting things done. It is about getting them done while remaining kind, empathetic, and mindful of the people around her.

Her biggest motivation is finding that balance—delivering meaningful results while helping others grow along the way.

This philosophy extends naturally into her creative life. Whether she is leading a team or writing a character, she wants authenticity to remain at the centre of what she does.

The Woman Behind the Achievements

Divya's definition of success extends far beyond titles and professional milestones.

In life, she wants to become a better person than she was the day before. In the corporate world, she aims to remain an exceptional people leader and subject matter expert. As a writer, she wants to remain genuine, authentic, and committed to telling stories about characters who feel real and rooted.

Some of her proudest moments are deeply personal.

Adopting cats is one of them. Her affection for them has added an entirely different kind of joy to her life, and she describes them as gloriously funny characters.

Another source of pride is her undergraduate achievement in women's studies, a subject close to her heart. She graduated as a top scorer and gold medallist, gaining perspectives from exceptional professors that continue to influence her belief in equality.

Then there is writing—the act of creating characters and weaving together stories she herself would love to read. Being a published author, she says, is an incredibly natural high.

And perhaps most importantly, she takes pride in helping people build their careers. Having benefited from people who opened doors for her, Divya believes in paying that opportunity forward by creating pathways for her teammates and peers.

A Life Written in Two Languages

One could describe Divya's journey as a meeting point between two powerful languages: the language of data and the language of stories.

Marketing and analytics have taught her how to understand patterns, behaviour, opportunities, and growth. Writing has taught her how to understand emotions, people, imagination, and the countless stories that exist beneath the surface.

Together, they have shaped a woman who refuses to be defined by a single professional identity.

Her corporate career continues to evolve, while her books give her a space where imagination takes the lead. Somewhere between spreadsheets and sentences, strategy and storytelling, leadership and literature, Divya Ramaswamy is creating a life that allows every part of her to have a voice.

And perhaps one day, that lifelong passion project will become her full-time career.

Until then, she continues to do what she has always done best—learn, lead, write, create, and leave every chapter a little better than she found it.
