When Dreams Return Stronger: Dr. Anita Tom’s Journey

In 2017, while Dr. Anita Tom was immersed in the demanding rhythm of her house surgeoncy, India celebrated a new Miss World—Manushi Chhillar. Like many young women, Anita watched with quiet admiration. Not because of the crown alone, but because it symbolised possibility. Life, however, moved swiftly. Studies led to responsibilities, responsibilities to marriage, and soon, to motherhood. Dreams were gently pushed aside—not abandoned, just waiting.

Because some dreams, Anita believes, don’t come with an expiry date.

After pregnancy, her body changed. And with it came something far heavier than weight—judgment. Bullying, whispers, unsolicited opinions. The world was quick to comment on how she looked, slower to notice who she was. But Anita chose not to let those voices define her. “Beauty isn’t on the face,” she reminds herself. “It’s what comes from that face.” And she knew, deeply and unshakably, that her heart was beautiful.

That belief became her anchor.

When she began exploring the world of Mrs. pageantry, not as a fantasy but as a platform, she searched with intention. That search led her to VEC Queen of India—a discovery that would quietly but decisively change the course of her life. What followed wasn’t just participation, but transformation. Anita didn’t just return to her old self; she evolved into a stronger, more assured version of who she had always been.

Her journey since has been layered and luminous. She was crowned Mrs. VEC Queen of India – 2nd Runner Up, a moment that validated years of resilience. In 2025, she received the Best of Kerala Multi-Talented Entrepreneur Award, recognising her ability to balance purpose with performance. Yet, pageantry is only one facet of her story.

Dr. Anita Tom is, first and foremost, a dermatologist—a healer by profession and temperament. Beyond the clinic, she wears many hats with equal sincerity: philanthropist, art teacher, and an active member of Kerala Balagram Orphanage, where her presence speaks louder than titles. She has also served as a jury member for IFE Miss, Mrs & Mr South India 2025, lending her insight to shape future talent.

On the ramp, she has commanded attention as a showstopper and show opener, including at Model Creators Delhi Season 6. Behind the camera, her creative spirit finds yet another voice—she has directed two short films, proving that storytelling, in any form, runs through her veins.

But perhaps the most compelling chapter is still being written.

Anita has often been told that the path she’s chosen is “too idealistic.” That honesty doesn’t pay. That values are luxuries the world no longer rewards. On both counts, she quietly disagrees—and intends to prove otherwise. Her vision for the future is expansive yet grounded: a country that restores its cultural values while offering peace of mind and prosperity to its people. A society where loyalty and integrity can coexist with comfort and success—without diminishing or insulting anyone along the way.

Dr. Anita Tom’s story isn’t about crowns or applause. It’s about choosing self-belief over cynicism, purpose over fear, and values over shortcuts. It’s a reminder that reinvention is always possible—and that a woman’s dream, no matter when it begins again, is always right on time.
