Dr. M. Sukanya: 15+ Years of Compassionate Care in Pregnancy & Ultrasound
For more than 15 years, Dr. M. Sukanya has stood at the intersection of medical expertise and compassionate care, helping women navigate some of the most important and emotionally sensitive stages of their lives. As an ultrasound and pregnancy care expert, her journey has been shaped not only by medical knowledge but also by experiences that gave her a deeply personal understanding of the fears and uncertainties women can face on the path to motherhood.
Her journey in medicine began with a strong academic foundation. In 2006, she completed her MBBS with distinction from Tanjore Medical College, India. She went on to pursue post-graduation in ultrasound pregnancy care in 2009 and later earned a London certification in acute medicine in 2023.

Over the years, her work with women experiencing fertility concerns and PCOD opened her eyes to a larger challenge. Many women were not only looking for medical treatment but also for someone who could listen to their concerns, explain their condition clearly and guide them without adding to their anxiety.
That realisation became the foundation for the next chapter of her career.
When Medicine Became Personal
While Dr. Sukanya was building her medical career, life presented her with a deeply personal challenge.
Shortly after her marriage in 2007, she experienced an emergency laparoscopic ectopic pregnancy. The medical crisis was frightening, physically demanding and emotionally difficult. Going through such vulnerability herself changed the way she looked at women’s reproductive health.
Later, she was blessed with a daughter, but the experience stayed with her.
Having personally experienced the fear, uncertainty and emotional vulnerability associated with reproductive health challenges, Dr. Sukanya developed a deeper understanding of what many of her patients were going through.
The doctor was no longer seeing these struggles only through a clinical lens. She understood the emotions behind the questions.
That experience gradually became an important part of her purpose: ensuring that women seeking care should feel heard, informed and supported.
Building Care Beyond the Clinic
With more than 15 years of experience in pregnancy ultrasound and women’s care, Dr. Sukanya went on to establish Shri Scans, creating a practice centred on accurate ultrasound services and patient-focused care.
Her professional journey, however, was not without challenges.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought an especially difficult period. Pregnancy scan numbers declined, while competing with large commercial platforms and corporate hospitals became increasingly challenging. For an independent medical practice, the changing healthcare environment created significant professional pressure.
Instead of allowing those circumstances to change the core of her practice, Dr. Sukanya chose to focus on what she believed mattered most-genuine medical guidance and patient trust.
This approach eventually led her toward digital healthcare.
Through her OVIVIA online guidance program, she began extending her medical guidance beyond the traditional clinic setting. The initiative allowed her to connect with women and mothers across geographical boundaries while continuing to focus on education, consultation and personal medical guidance.
What began as a response to changing circumstances gradually developed into a larger global community.
From Individual Patients to a Global Community
Today, Dr. Sukanya's work extends beyond ultrasound scans. Through Shri Scans, OVIVIA and her online initiatives, she aims to help women better understand pregnancy, PCOD, fertility concerns and reproductive health.
Her consultations have earned the trust of more than 10,000 mothers worldwide, while her social media platforms have generated more than 2 million views and reach, allowing her to take pregnancy-related awareness to a much wider audience.
At the heart of this work is a simple belief: women deserve accurate information before making decisions about their health.
Dr. Sukanya advocates for understanding the fundamentals of health and addressing basic, natural and appropriate steps before immediately moving toward expensive or complicated interventions. Her objective is not simply to provide information, but to help women make more informed choices about their health journeys.
20,000+ Scans and a Career Built on Trust
One of the defining milestones of Dr. Sukanya's professional career has been performing more than 20,000 pregnancy ultrasound scans.
Each scan represents more than a medical procedure. For expectant parents, it can be a moment filled with anticipation, questions and sometimes anxiety. Her experience has taught her that technical accuracy and human understanding need to work together.
Her academic credentials, including an MBBS with distinction, postgraduate training in ultrasound pregnancy care and a London certification in acute medicine, have provided the foundation for her clinical practice. But her personal experiences have added another dimension to her work-the ability to understand the emotional side of women's healthcare.
This combination of knowledge and empathy has become central to the way she approaches her profession.
A Vision That Goes Beyond Numbers
For Dr. Sukanya, the next chapter is about expanding that impact.
She envisions taking the OVIVIA global online program to more women and mothers around the world, creating a stronger community where they can access guidance, education and support.
At the same time, she remains committed to continuing trusted pregnancy ultrasound services through Shri Scans.
Her larger mission is to empower thousands more women dealing with PCOD, fertility concerns and pregnancy-related challenges by helping them understand their health and take informed steps toward healthier pregnancies.
Her journey-from a young medical graduate to an experienced ultrasound specialist, from a doctor facing her own reproductive health crisis to a mother and healthcare entrepreneur building a global community-has given her work a deeply personal meaning.
For Dr. M. Sukanya, medicine is not only about diagnosing a condition or conducting a scan. It is also about understanding the person sitting across from you.
And perhaps that is what makes her journey particularly meaningful: she has transformed one of the most vulnerable chapters of her own life into a mission to make other women feel less alone on theirs.
