Mira Gadhia: Proving That It’s Never Too Late to Pursue Your Purpose

There are moments when life asks us to begin again—not because we have failed, but because we have discovered a deeper sense of purpose. For Mira Gadhia, that turning point began with volunteering in the Sathya Sai Education wing, where she taught children about human values, character development, and the importance of making positive choices.

What began as a volunteer experience soon became a defining chapter in her life. Watching education shape young minds and influence their choices revealed to Mira the profound difference a teacher can make. It inspired her to pursue education not simply as a profession, but as a meaningful way to empower young people.

Driven by this purpose, Mira completed her PGCE and later pursued an MSc in Education at Loughborough University through a fully funded university scholarship. These experiences strengthened her practical teaching abilities while deepening her understanding of inclusive, values-based education.

Her journey into teaching was far from conventional. Before becoming an educator, Mira had built an established career as a Human Resources Manager. Choosing to leave that secure professional path and enter teaching meant starting afresh in a new environment. Yet, for her, the opportunity to make a difference mattered more than the comfort of familiarity.

Beginning Again at 42

One of the defining challenges of Mira’s career came when she decided to complete her teaching qualification at the age of 42. At a stage when many might hesitate to begin a new professional journey, she found herself balancing studies with work, family responsibilities, children, assignments, and teaching placements.

The demands were intense. She was already working in a physically and mentally demanding role while studying alongside much younger students. At the same time, changing careers from Human Resources to education required her to step outside an established professional identity and become a beginner once again.

Not everyone understood her decision. Some questioned her motives, while others struggled to understand why she would leave a secure and respected HR position for teaching.

But Mira remained anchored to the purpose that had brought her to education.

Through careful time management, discipline, family support, guidance from mentors, and a willingness to keep learning, she moved forward. Perhaps most importantly, she learned to accept being a beginner again and recognised that her previous professional experience could still bring value to her new career.

The transition taught her perseverance, humility, and empathy. It also gave her a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by learners and colleagues. What initially felt like an enormous leap eventually became one of the most rewarding decisions of her life.

When Career and Family Collided

Mira’s journey has also been shaped by moments when professional responsibilities and family priorities demanded her attention at the same time.

One particularly difficult period came when her son was preparing for his GCSE examinations while Mira herself had important work commitments. As a mother, she wanted to be present for him—to drop him at school, support him through the examinations, and reassure him during a stressful stage of his education.

At the same time, her husband was admitted to hospital for three days, requiring her to take time away from work to support him.

It was an emotionally demanding period, filled with competing responsibilities and the difficult feeling that she could not be everywhere at once.

Mira managed the situation through organisation, careful planning, clear communication, and support from her family. Her placement school also provided understanding and assistance, helping her manage her responsibilities during a challenging period.

The experience taught her an important lesson: being present does not always mean being physically available for every moment. Sometimes, encouragement, stability, understanding, and love can provide the support that matters most.

It also deepened her empathy towards families and young people dealing with pressure during important stages of life—an understanding that continues to influence her approach as an educator.

Education as a Path to Empowerment

For Mira, education extends far beyond academic achievement. Her future vision is closely connected to women’s empowerment and creating greater access to education for women and girls.

She believes every woman deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, develop confidence, and be treated equally. Through her work, she hopes to encourage women to believe in their abilities, become independent, and pursue their full potential.

Her commitment also extends to value-based education through the Sathya Sai International Organisation. Mira believes that education should develop not only knowledge and skills, but also character, compassion, responsibility, and strong moral values.

Her long-term vision is to contribute to a society where women are respected and given equal opportunities, while young people are equipped with the values needed to lead meaningful and responsible lives.

Five Milestones That Define Her Journey

Mira’s achievements reflect a life shaped by continuous learning, courage, and purpose.

Completing her Master’s degree at 45 stands among her proudest accomplishments—a personal reminder that learning has no age limit.

Winning the title of Classic Mrs India International Queen 2026 represents another significant milestone, reflecting her confidence, dedication, and journey of self-belief.

Changing careers from Human Resources to teaching allowed Mira to follow her passion for education and contribute directly to the development of young people.

Watching both her children excel in their education and careers remains one of her greatest personal joys and a reflection of the values she has worked to instil in them.

And today, making a positive difference as a secondary-school maths teacher, while serving as KS3 Lead and taking on additional responsibilities, allows her to combine teaching, leadership, and service every day.
