Samta Chhabra: Turning Setbacks into a Story of Leadership and Success
There are moments in life when a single decision—or a single rejection—can alter the course of an entire future. For Samta Chhabra, that moment arrived just as she stood at the threshold of fulfilling her childhood dream. She had earned admission to study Aeronautical Engineering, ranked among the top 100 students, and envisioned a future dedicated to serving the nation. But life had other plans.
Born into a middle-class family, Samta grew up inspired by her father, who served in the Territorial Army before joining the Indian Railways. His discipline and commitment ignited in her a dream of contributing to India's defence sector. Becoming an Aeronautical Engineer was more than a career aspiration—it was a mission she had nurtured for years.

When she secured admission to the Indian Institute of Aeronautics, it felt like years of determination had finally paid off. However, financial realities intervened. Despite approaching multiple banks and preparing every document possible, her education loan was denied because she lacked the required admission receipt. The opportunity she had worked tirelessly for slipped away.
The disappointment was overwhelming. It affected not only her confidence but also her health. Yet, amid the heartbreak, she discovered something that would define the rest of her life: sometimes the path we lose is preparing us for the one we are truly meant to follow.
Instead of surrendering to circumstances, Samta chose to adapt. She enrolled at NIIT to study Computer Applications and moved to Delhi to pursue a new beginning. Leaving her original B.Sc. college before her final year could have become another setback, but she refused to let circumstances dictate her future. She simultaneously completed her B.Sc. in Information Technology while pursuing professional training, proving that determination often creates opportunities where none seem to exist.
To support herself financially, she began working while studying. Her early career involved technical and administrative roles that strengthened her communication skills, business etiquette, client management abilities, and problem-solving mindset. Although these experiences helped her grow professionally, she felt an undeniable void.
She wanted more than routine office work.
She wanted creativity.
She wanted challenges.
She wanted to create experiences that people would remember.
That realization led her to take a bold leap into artist management—a decision that introduced her to the dynamic world of marketing and events. It became the turning point that transformed her professional identity.
Over the years, Samta established herself across brand marketing, experiential campaigns, corporate events, global conferences, strategic partnerships, ATL, BTL, MICE, and artist management. She discovered a profession that perfectly blended strategic thinking with creativity, execution with innovation, and business objectives with meaningful human connections.
But success was never handed to her easily.
One of the most defining decisions of her career was leaving a financially secure corporate job because it lacked purpose. Walking away from stability meant embracing uncertainty. There were days when even basic necessities became difficult, and she vividly remembers purchasing milk with the last few coins she had.
Instead of allowing fear to control her choices, she invested that uncertain period in self-discovery. She researched industries, explored her strengths, learned continuously, and gradually found clarity about where she truly belonged.
Her determination was tested once again when she moved to Dubai with aspirations of accelerating her career. The opportunity, however, did not unfold as expected. Returning to India meant rebuilding everything from the beginning. She later launched her own venture, but an unfortunate business decision resulted in significant financial losses, forcing her to restart once again—this time accepting a much lower salary than she had previously earned.
Many would have viewed these experiences as failures.
Samta chose to see them as lessons.
Every challenge strengthened her adaptability, sharpened her decision-making, and reinforced her unwavering belief that every ending carries the possibility of a new beginning.
Another barrier she quietly broke was within the events industry itself.
Event operations have traditionally been viewed as a male-dominated domain, where overnight installations, vendor management, logistics, and on-ground execution were often considered unsuitable for women. Rather than accepting those stereotypes, Samta decided to master every aspect of event execution herself.
She believed capability has no gender.
Whether managing complex logistics or ensuring flawless execution under pressure, she consistently demonstrated that preparation, ownership, and dedication matter far more than assumptions.
One of her memorable achievements came while leading a Bosch mall activation, where her meticulous planning ensured seamless installation and execution. Another proud milestone was managing operations for a Mahindra & Mahindra supplier event, overseeing everything from accommodation and logistics to final delivery. The flawless execution earned exceptional appreciation from senior client leadership, who publicly recognised the event as one of the smoothest they had experienced in years.
These moments became powerful reminders that excellence naturally silences stereotypes.
Alongside professional challenges, Samta also worked tirelessly to overcome a deeply personal one—her lack of confidence. Early in her career, she often hesitated to approach new people because she believed she wasn't knowledgeable enough.
Instead of allowing self-doubt to limit her potential, she deliberately challenged herself. She embraced continuous learning, travelled independently, expanded her professional network, and consistently accepted assignments that pushed her beyond her comfort zone.
Today, relationship-building, collaboration, and strategic partnerships have become among her greatest professional strengths.
Her journey has also been recognised through several prestigious honours. Receiving the Queen Behind the Stage recognition at the Power Women Awards celebrated the countless hours of dedication invested behind every successful event. She was also recognised by the SheSplash community as one of the Women to Watch 2026 under the category of Operational Excellence & Brand Impact, acknowledging her contribution to delivering impactful marketing initiatives and operational excellence.
Yet, beyond awards and professional accomplishments, one achievement remains closest to her heart.
Winning the trust and pride of her parents.
Coming from a conservative middle-class family, choosing an unconventional career was never easy. Watching her parents gradually believe in her choices and celebrate her achievements has become one of her life's most meaningful victories.
Today, Samta's aspirations extend far beyond personal success. She envisions becoming a business leader who creates opportunities for others, mentors young professionals facing difficult circumstances, and builds platforms where artists and creative talent can flourish.
She believes education provides the foundation, but continuous learning, adaptability, courage, and perseverance determine how high a person can ultimately rise.
Her story reminds us that life's greatest disappointments often become the beginning of our most meaningful chapters. The dream she once lost never truly disappeared—it simply transformed into a larger purpose, allowing her to inspire, lead, create opportunities, and prove that success is rarely a straight road.
Sometimes, the destination we never planned becomes the one we were always meant to reach.
