A Voice That Never Gave Up: The Story of Shweta Sankhla

Some dreams arrive early in life, quietly taking root in childhood. For Shweta Sankhla, that dream was music.

Growing up in the small town of Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh, Shweta found joy in melodies long before she understood what it meant to pursue a passion. Singing came naturally to her, and many of her early inspirations came from listening to the soulful songs of Sonu Nigam. His voice filled her world with possibility, and somewhere deep inside, a young girl began to imagine a life where she too could sing.

But life in a small town at that time offered very little guidance for someone who wished to pursue music seriously. There were no mentors, no formal opportunities, and no clear path. Like many dreams nurtured quietly in small places, hers was gently set aside as life moved forward.

Shweta completed her graduation in Pune and soon after stepped into a new chapter of life. In 2005, she got married and moved to Vapi in Gujarat. As the years passed, her world began to revolve around family. She embraced motherhood wholeheartedly, raising her three children—two daughters, now 18 and 16, and her youngest, a nine-year-old son.

While life was full of love, it also brought moments of profound loss.

In March 2012, Shweta lost a cousin she loved dearly. Just a few months later, in August, another devastating loss followed—her father. He had always been her pillar of strength, and his absence left a void that words could hardly express. The grief changed her world completely.

As the family struggled to heal, another heartbreaking loss arrived in 2014 when her father-in-law passed away. He had been a strong support system for the family, and his departure left everyone emotionally shattered.

Those years tested Shweta in ways she had never imagined.

In the midst of that emotional storm, she searched desperately for something that could bring light back into her family’s life. It was during this time that she and her family decided to welcome another child. In 2016, her son was born. His arrival brought an unexpected wave of joy and healing into the household. It wasn’t about having a boy—the family had always been happy with their daughters. Rather, it was about the warmth, innocence, and happiness that a baby brings to a grieving home.

Slowly, life began to smile again.

Yet somewhere along the way, Shweta had almost forgotten a part of herself—the girl who loved to sing.

One day, that forgotten passion resurfaced. It reminded her of who she once was. Determined not to ignore it again, she decided to take a small but meaningful step forward and joined singing classes.

That single decision opened doors she had never imagined walking through.

Soon after, Shweta participated in her very first ramp walk organized by the Vapi Women’s Club. Stepping onto the stage for the first time was both thrilling and terrifying. For someone who had spent most of her life as a homemaker away from the spotlight, it felt completely out of the ordinary—but it also felt liberating.

Encouraged by the experience, she continued exploring opportunities that allowed her to grow. She even hosted a program, another step that once seemed impossible for the shy girl she used to be.

Then came a moment that would add a new dimension to her journey.

While scrolling through Instagram, she discovered the page for Narifirst. On a whim, she decided to fill out the application form. She didn’t expect much—after all, she was simply a homemaker who had only recently begun exploring her passions again.

But to her surprise, she was selected as a finalist.

Even more exciting was the opportunity to showcase her talent on stage. For Shweta, it felt like destiny had come full circle. After years of silence, she would finally be able to sing before an audience.

Today, at 45, Shweta Sankhla stands at a beautiful crossroads in life.

She is no longer the woman who believes she hasn’t done anything for herself. Instead, she is someone who has rediscovered her voice—literally and figuratively.

Being recognized as a Narifirst finalist, receiving the chance to perform her singing talent, and sharing her story publicly are moments she deeply cherishes. Each step reminds her that it is never too late to start living for your dreams.

Looking ahead, Shweta hopes to explore new opportunities—from magazine features to professional photoshoots and collaborations with renowned brands. More than anything, she wants to continue embracing every experience that life places in her path.

Through loss, love, motherhood, and rediscovery, her journey reflects a powerful truth: sometimes dreams may pause, but they never truly disappear.

And when the moment is right, the song always finds its way back.
