The Inspiring Story of Sumaiya Parvin and the RUH Foundation
Some journeys are not planned from the beginning—they are shaped by experiences, challenges, and the courage to rise after every setback. For Sumaiya Parvin, life itself became the greatest teacher. What began as a phase of uncertainty gradually transformed into a mission dedicated to social impact, justice, and empowerment.
Unlike many who grow up with a fixed dream, Sumaiya never imagined herself doing something extraordinary. But life had different plans. Wrong decisions, difficult phases, and encounters with the wrong people pushed her into situations that changed her perspective forever. Instead of allowing those experiences to defeat her, she used them as lessons. Slowly, she realized that her purpose was not only to rebuild her own life but also to help others avoid the pain and struggles she had once faced.
Her real struggles began the day she had to leave her home. It was a period filled with uncertainty, survival, and self-discovery. Every challenge tested her strength, but each experience also made her stronger and more determined to create a meaningful future. During this difficult phase, the support of her father became a turning point in her life. With his encouragement, she secured admission into BA LL.B., a decision that helped her regain direction and confidence.
While pursuing law, Sumaiya understood that she did not want to limit herself to practicing as a lawyer alone. Deep within, she carried a larger vision—to dedicate her life to serving society and contributing to the nation in a meaningful way. After completing her degree, she appeared for the Judge Advocate General (JAG) branch of the Indian Army. Although she could not achieve success there, the setback did not stop her spirit.
She returned to legal practice, hoping to build a career through law, but soon realized that the professional environment and ethical conflicts did not align with her values. That realization became another turning point. Instead of continuing on a path that felt disconnected from her purpose, she shifted towards social work and NGOs, where she finally discovered a sense of fulfillment.
This new chapter changed her life completely. Sumaiya began working closely with acid attack survivors, helping them secure compensation, legal assistance, and rehabilitation support. Listening to their stories and witnessing their courage gave her a new sense of purpose. Their strength inspired her to continue fighting for people who often feel unheard and abandoned by society.
In 2025, Sumaiya transformed her vision into reality by establishing the Restoring Upright Harmony (RUH) Foundation. Through the foundation, she aims to create lasting social change by supporting underprivileged communities, especially women and children. Her mission focuses on promoting menstrual hygiene awareness, improving educational opportunities, and building a better future for those who lack access to basic resources. Beyond human welfare, she also dreams of creating safe shelters and care systems for stray animals.
At the same time, through her startup Chilli and Clove LLP, she hopes to generate employment opportunities and encourage financial independence among individuals striving for a better life.
Today, Sumaiya Parvin’s journey stands as a reflection of determination, growth, and purpose. Every struggle she faced became a stepping stone toward building a life dedicated to helping others. Rather than allowing hardships to define her, she transformed them into motivation to create meaningful change in society.
Her remarkable contributions to society and social welfare have earned her several prestigious recognitions over the years. She was honored as the 100 Iconic Women of India Awardee 2026 and also received recognition at the Sab Jan Sewa Manch’s Sewa Samman Sammelan 2025 for her impactful social work. In 2019, she was presented with the Bengal Youth Icon Award by the U.S. Embassy Kolkata for her efforts in working against human trafficking in West Bengal. Apart from her achievements in social service, she was also awarded the Best Women Cyclist Award in 2017, showcasing her determination and spirit in every field she pursued.
Sumaiya’s story reminds us that true purpose often emerges from life’s toughest moments. Her journey is not just about overcoming struggles—it is about turning pain into service, and experiences into hope for countless others.
